Kamila Ženatá
artist and psychotherapist
Kamila Ženatá is a visual artist and psychotherapist. Her work cannot be pigeonholed according to any mass trends on the domestic art scene in recent decades. She studied graphic arts at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague (1973–1979), later shifting her focus to drawing and painting. She gradually expanded her artistic expression to include the media of video and text, and her projects matured into complex entities. Her practice, inspired by dreams, imagination, memory, and the individual and collective unconscious, has resulted in a long line of exhibitions dealing with the themes of trauma, loss, and emotions. These include The 2nd Floor (2009), The Women’s Yard (2013), Event Horizon (2015, 2016, 2017), mycelium / NOVA FORMA 2 (2022), and My Shoes, Your Shoes (2024). Ženatá is a long-time collaborator of the DOX Centre for Contemporary Art, where she most recently presented a series of monumental paintings in the exhibition Everything Like at the Dawn of the World (2024). She has also practised psychoanalytic group psychotherapy since the 1990s.
