WHEN SOMETHING IS MISSING

Dana Lédl

An open workshop with illustrator Dana Lédl. What happens when something important is missing in our world? What if invisible rules determine what we are allowed to want, say, or imagine?

Together, we will embark on a journey into a strange world where we will ask: What is freedom and how do we recognise it? Through the act of creation, we will explore a world where we have everything – and yet something is missing.

Dana Lédl, who also goes by the name Myokard, is a Czech illustrator and visual artist. She has illustrated a whole host of publications ranging in genre from journalism to young adult, including the books Testimonies of Life in the DPRK (Svědectví o životě v KLDR, 2020) and North Star (Severka, 2023), both by Nina Špitálníková. She was nominated for a Zlatá Stuha award for her artwork in the anthology The Bell Rings in Five (Za pět minut zvoní, 2024). Her work often derives from her introspective sketchbooks and journals, and it explores themes of the everyday, mental health, and the female perspective. She collaborates with many different Czech and international publishers (Penguin Random House, Bloomsbury Publishing, Soho Press, Hachette Book Group, Simon & Shuster, The Washington Post, Arctis Verlag, Host, Argo, Euromedia, Albatros). She has also created a number of designs for t-shirts and other items of clothing for brands such as NeverEnough, Holokolo, My Bohemian, youngprimitive, and Abraka. She was nominated for a Czech Grand Design award for the covers she illustrated for the magazine Respekt.
