THE SELF-PORTRAIT AS THE FIRST SIN IN ART
Daniela Vodáčková, Hynek Martinec, Otto M. Urban
In the history of art, the self-portrait was the first attempt to humanise art and disrupt the dominant position of a certain artistic ideal. For many artists it became one of the main themes of their work, representing a moment in which the work and the life of its creator became one. In recent decades, a number of self-portraits have been created with a stylisation that is often sharp and provocative. New technologies have opened up possibilities for different ways of capturing the self, and pop culture has also left its mark. A short lecture by curator and art historian Otto M. Urban will be followed by a debate with poet Daniela Vodáčková and artist Hynek Martinec about unconventional approaches to self-portraiture in contemporary visual art and poetry.
The event will be hosted by Marie Iljašenko.
